Buffalo Luxury Camp is situated approximately 5 kilometers (3 miles) from Kleins Gate to the East of the Serengeti National Park. It offers a unique combination of luxurious accommodation, extraordinary wildlife, the exhilarating freedom to participate in guided game & nature walks as well as bush dinners, the rare opportunity to go on night game drives and a fascinating insight into the culture of the local Maasai tribesmen and women.
Accommodation at the camp consists of 15 split level suite tents measuring 60 square metres (or 600 square feet) each and consisting of a verandah, comfortable lounge area, bedroom and bathroom. The lounge is furnished with a writing desk and high-back chair, a comfortable leather sofa and armchair. The raised sleeping area features either a king size or twin beds made from recycled aluminium and decorated with traditional Maasai beadwork. And the bathroom has a soaking tub, separate shower, his and hers wash hand basins, flush toilet, hair dryer and comfortable robes.
Each tent is supplied with both electricity as well as hot and cold running water and enjoys stunning views of the Serengeti National Park and its environs.
The thoughtfully designed and tastefully decorated main building is located at the top of the property and also offers stunning views into the Serengeti National Park. The structure is finished with a combination of precious timbers and large picture windows, both of which serve to enhance the camps outstanding beauty.
Inside can be found three separate areas, built on three different levels. On the first level is the dining room where breakfasts, lunches and dinners are normally served. Meals can also be served outside ‘al fresco’ on the terrace or in the purpose built Maasai boma located some distance from the camp. The main lounge, with its opulent leather settees and indoor fireplace are located on a second level whilst the lounge bar with its selection of fine wines and spirits is located on yet another level. A large outdoor patio with fire bowl and lounge chairs provide the perfect venue for aperitifs and pre-dinner bitings or simply for reading, relaxing and meeting other guests.
Complimentary high speed wireless internet is available throughout the main building.
By virtue of its location on the border of the Serengeti National Park, Buffalo Luxury Camp offers a range of activities which are not normally available on the Tanzania Northern Safari circuit. The availability of these activities form a very important part of our guests experience whilst staying with us.
Guided Game & Nature Walks
Guests are able to participate in a number of different guided game & nature walks. These walks, which are accompanied by a professional guide, enable them to get close to the wildlife, birdlife and nature which they come to Tanzania to enjoy. Walking in the bush surrounded by all the sights, sounds and smells that Africa has to offer is something that cannot be experienced from inside a Safari car. An important part of these walks is to understand the ecology of the area being visited as well as to gain basic skills in tracking, dung identification and medicinal uses of trees and bushes in Maasai tradition.
Night Game Drives
These are conducted in the camp’s open vehicle with a Maasai tracker seated in the jump seat to locate wildlife with the help of a specialist spot-light. The experience of a game drive at night is very different from one during the day and you can see aardvark, striped hyena, lions on a hunt and kill, leopard, elephants, impala, zebra, owls, night jar, bush babies and giraffe.
Sundowners and Bush Dinners
Every guest staying at Buffalo Luxury Camp is invited to enjoy a sundowner cocktail from a vantage point from where you can watch the sun set over the Serengeti National Park. This is followed by a bush dinner in an authentic Maasai kraal, complete with acacia brush. A camp fire and the beautiful starlit African night sky serve to complete what can only be described as a memorable experience.
Maasai and cultural-community interactions
The Maasai are among the best known of African tribes due to their adherence to their distinctive customs and dress. Whereas many of the Maasai bomas to be found on the Tanzania Northern Safari circuit are geared entirely towards visiting tourists, the Maasai of Ololosokwan remain unaffected by large scale tourism and are therefore always enthusiastic about sharing their cultural beliefs with the few visitors they receive from the very limited tourism facilities which exist in their area. A visit among the local people of Tanzania can easily become one of the most rewarding experiences of a visit to Africa. Whilst the amazing wildlife and stunning landscapes often take the limelight, the unique native tribes provide a wonderful opportunity to experience Africa in a way that may touch visitors lives forever.
Guests are also able to participate in Balloon Safaris from nearby Lobo with ‘Adventures Aloft Serengeti.’ Adventures Aloft has two A415 balloon from Cameroon Balloons, each with a flying capacity of 16 passengers. Arrangements to participate in a Balloon Safari need normally to be made prior to your arrival in Tanzania.
